The Need
The Council receives an increasing number of requests for food safety information targeted specifically at those in a workplace environment. Such requests come from organisations throughout Australia, ranging from approximately 50 to 5000 employees.
At the moment only general food safety brochures are supplied. These brochures and posters do not cover specific food safety issues involving the workplace such as cleanliness of communal kitchens, the sorting of ‘ownerless’ fridges, leftovers from catered meals, and the need for scrupulous hand washing to minimise the transfer of food borne illness and other diseases such as influenza which spread rapidly through the workplace and are responsible for significant absenteeism.
Project Uptake
In the past six months the Council has provided approximately 35,000 brochures and posters to organisations promoting food safety in the workplace. Based on the Council's experience the number of requests for workplace food safety material would at least double if specifically targeted information was available.
As well as being supplied to requesting organisations, the material would be:
- provided to training organisations and community groups
- included on Food Safety Information Council and partner stalls at major conferences, exhibitions and workshops such as OH&S Expos, Safety Shows, the National Food Safety Conference and the Food and Wine Show
- included in mail outs to a significant number of the 800 local governments throughout Australia and other organisations participating in National Food Safety Week in November
- available for downloading from the Council's website.
The Benefit
With your organisation’s logo included on Food Safety Information Council information, your organisation would position itself as a 'best practice' company which cares for the well being of its staff and Australia’s workforce generally.
The Council's increasing national profile would ensure distribution to audiences with keen and focussed interest throughout Australia.
All mail outs would include a letter signed by the Chairman of the Food Safety Information Council, Dr Michael Eyles, thanking your organisation and highlighting the company's involvement with the Council as an excellent example of corporate citizenship.
Your organisation would also have the opportunity to create an event to launch the material with participation and support from the Food Safety Information Council.
The Cost
The cost of a brochure specifically designed for workplace environments would be approximately $10,000 for a print run of 50,000 or $15,000 for a print run of 100,000.
An A3 poster done in the same style would be approximately $7,500 for a print run of 5,000 or $10,000 for a print run of 10,000.
These figures would include writing, images, review of the material by the Council's Technical Committee, graphic design, printing, and mail out to requesting organisations. A targeted mail out, training videos, and promotional material could be arranged at additional costs.
Your organisation would have the opportunity to review all material before finalisation |
